Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) & Shockwave Therapy

Regenerative Care

Health Wellness Medical Astoria PLLC (BreezeMed Urgent Care) offers regenerative care services for select musculoskeletal conditions as part of our sports medicine and injury care offerings. These services are provided only after evaluation by a licensed medical providerand are not part of emergency or routine urgent care treatment.

Regenerative therapies may be considered for patients with certain tendon, ligament, joint, or soft-tissue conditions when conservative care has been insufficient.

What Is Regenerative Care?

Regenerative care refers to medical treatments that aim to support the body’s natural healing processes. At BreezeMed, regenerative services are used selectively and responsibly, based on clinical findings, patient history, and medical appropriateness. We currently offer:
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
  • Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
These services are electivenon-emergency, and not appropriate for all patients.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

PRP therapy involves drawing a small amount of a patient’s own blood, processing it to concentrate platelets, and re-injecting the platelet-rich portion into a targeted area when clinically indicated.

Platelets contain growth factors that may play a role in tissue repair and recovery. PRP is sometimes used in sports medicine and orthopedic settings for select musculoskeletal conditions.

PRP May Be Considered For:

  • Chronic tendon or ligament conditions
  • Certain joint-related pain or injuries
  • Sports or overuse injuries
  • Soft-tissue injuries when appropriate
Important:
PRP is not a guaranteed treatment, and outcomes vary by individual. PRP is not appropriate for all conditions or patients.

Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment that delivers focused or radial acoustic waves to targeted musculoskeletal areas.

Shockwave therapy may be used in select cases to support circulation, stimulate tissue response, and address chronic musculoskeletal pain patterns.

Fracture-Related Pain Support

Shockwave Therapy does not replace fracture stabilization, immobilization, or surgical care when those are medically indicated. However, in select cases, it may be used as an adjunct therapy to support healing and symptom relief in patients experiencing.

  • Delayed healing discomfort after fractures

  • Chronic pain following a healed or healing fracture

  • Stress-related bone injuries

  • Post-immobilization stiffness and pain

Shockwave Therapy may help by:

  • Stimulating local blood flow

  • Supporting tissue regeneration

  • Reducing chronic inflammation

  • Improving mobility during recovery phases

Important: Active, unstable, or acute fractures typically require imaging, immobilization, and orthopedic evaluation prior to considering any adjunct therapies.

Joint Pain Treatment Options

Shockwave Therapy may be beneficial for patients with non-emergent joint pain, including:

  • Knee pain (degenerative or overuse)

  • Shoulder pain (including rotator cuff-related conditions)

  • Hip pain

  • Ankle and foot pain

  • Elbow and wrist pain

It is often considered for patients who:

  • Have persistent joint pain despite conservative care

  • Are seeking non-surgical options

  • Want to improve function and range of motion

  • Experience chronic inflammation or tendon-related joint pain

Shockwave Therapy May Be Considered For:

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Tendon-related conditions (e.g., Achilles, elbow, shoulder)

  • Chronic soft-tissue pain

  • Sports-related overuse injuries

Treatment plans vary based on condition and response
